Arek Oy spent their workplace wellbeing day at Paradox Museum Helsinki, diving into a world of illusions and insights. The enthusiastic team found themselves surrounded by mind-boggling optical illusions: laughter echoed, and team spirit shone in a uniquely stimulating environment that awakens both the senses and the brain.

Arek is a Finnish IT company jointly owned by earnings-related pension organisations, with the efficient implementation of pension security at its core. The company develops and maintains the industry’s key shared IT systems, combining deep pension sector expertise, innovative technological solutions, and a reliable approach.

The company employs over 40 experts, of whom a group of about 30 arrived at Paradox Museum ready to embrace the paradoxes.

Excitement filled the air from the moment they stepped into the lobby. After a brief introduction, the group set off to explore the exhibition independently, each at their own pace. It was especially delightful to see how many of them threw themselves into hands-on activities and shared laughter. The illusions sparked lively scientific (or at least semi-scientific) discussions, and several puzzles were tackled purely through teamwork.

There was a lot of buzzing around the game table in the Paradox Museum’s library, and many stayed to solve the puzzles on both the table and the educational wall—for instance, Sirpa, Aila, and Assi worked on a wall illusion through creative cooperation. They almost cracked the mystery: one moved the sliding piece, another measured, and a third made careful observations. Once the museum staff revealed the mechanics of the illusion and how our brains process information, a light of realisation lit up the solvers’ faces, followed by laughter.

Gravity even seemed to take a temporary vacation when a large part of the group headed to the museum’s Zero Gravity room. The laws of physics were put to the test as colleagues captured each other’s struggles with the illusion of weightlessness.

Arek’s group journey concluded with the Infinity Room and the portal into the Paradox Boutique, where they made discoveries and shared their fresh observations. At the end of the tour, it was a pleasure to see how the experiences sparked many thought-provoking conversations—and above all, human connection and shared fun.

Wellbeing at work can be promoted in many different ways. Playfulness, wonder, and experimentation are one approach—and this is easy to experience at Paradox Museum Helsinki without any major planning or preparation: just gather the crew and go!

This approach certainly seemed to suit Arek’s enthusiastic and game team exceptionally well. Plus, shifting perspectives and trying things out will surely provide fresh viewpoints for everyday work insights, too!
